The goal of the Guidance program at Lafayette Regional School is to work with students, teachers, families, and communities to ensure successful academic, social and behavioral experiences for all students.
Guidance at Lafayette Regional School includes classroom programs, individual and small group counseling, and support and referral services to help all students be successful and responsible citizens of an ever-changing world.
All Aboard for classroom guidance! First graders use problem-solving and cooperation to help their group fit on the shrinking island.
Classroom guidance at Lafayette focuses on strengthening social/emotional learning skills. Activities are based on curriculum from:
-Project Adventure
-Peacemaking Skills for Little Kids
-Creative Conflict Resolution
-Kids and Company
-and others
Activities are differentiated based on classroom and individual needs. Through activities and cooperative games such as Space Odyssey, Trust Circle, Snake Pit, Design a Planet, Pennies for Peace and many others, students practice collaboration, individual and group problem-solving, goal setting, cooperation, and global empathy. Social skills such as listening, using caring words, helping, and being responsible are also a focus. The Collaborative Worker Rubric is used to encourage students to evaluate areas of challenge and success in group situations.

The Collaborative Worker Rubric (grades K-3)
The Collaborative Worker Rubric is based on the RESPECT Rubric developed by Project Adventure, Inc. The Collaborative Worker Rubric, like the RESPECT Rubric, describes the behaviors that successful collaborative workers demonstrate. The highest level encourages students to be not only responsible for their own behavior, but to go "above and beyond" by helping others to be successful as well.
Individual and Small Group Counseling
The School Counselor helps students who are experiencing academic, social or personal difficulty. In addition, small group counseling is available for students who are at risk for these difficulties. Small groups may include Banana Splits (for children experiencing divorce or separation in their families); friendship groups, social skills groups, and others. Please contact the School Counselor if you feel that your child might benefit from school counseling.
