Classroom Guidance
Classroom guidance is designed to reach all students at a certain grade level. The goal of classroom guidance is prevention. Students participate in activities in such areas as friendship, conflict resolution, cooperation, and personal safety. By practicing skills that help avoid or minimize social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties, as well as the stress that comes with them, students are more able to achieve their full potential.
Small Group Counseling
Small group counseling is available for groups of students experiencing difficulty in a particular area, or who are at risk for experiencing problems. Groups such as Banana Splits for children of families facing divorce or separation; Cool Cats for students needing some support with anger and frustration management; and friendship groups are a few examples. Please contact the school counselor if you feel your child might benefit from participation in group counseling.
Individual Counseling
Students who are experiencing difficulty with thoughts, feelings, or behaviors that is impacting their social and/or academic progress in school might benefit from individual counseling. This is a short-term intervention that explores the causes and effects of such difficulties and explores options for solutions. Many problems are able to be resolved in just a few sessions; others take longer. Occasionally, the school counselor might recommend longer-term therapeutic intervention with a therapist outside of school.
